Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management: New User Experience for Production Floor Execution Interface
Watch this video to learn about the capabilities available in the latest updates to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management.
What is the new production floor execution interface in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management?
The new production floor execution interface in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management is a redesigned, touch-optimized workspace that shop floor workers use to manage and record production activities.
Functionally, it serves the same purpose as the existing job card device and job card terminal: it lets workers start, stop, and report on production jobs directly from the shop floor. The key difference is the user experience:
- It offers a modern, streamlined interface that’s easier to use on touch devices.
- It’s designed to help workers move through tasks more efficiently, which can support higher throughput, lower scrap and defect ratios, and reduced work in progress.
In short, you keep the core capabilities you’re used to, but with a reimagined interface that better fits today’s production environments and devices.
How does the new interface help shop floor workers manage multiple jobs?
The new production floor execution interface is built to make it easier for workers to handle real-world production scenarios where multiple jobs are active at once.
With the updated experience, workers can:
- Select and start multiple jobs at the same time.
- Start a new job while continuing to work on jobs that are already in progress.
This flexibility helps align the system more closely with how work actually happens on the shop floor. It can reduce the need to constantly stop and restart jobs in the system, which in turn supports smoother task switching, better utilization of equipment and labor, and more accurate tracking of work in progress, scrap, and defects.
How is the new interface configured and assigned to devices?
Configuration for the new production floor execution interface is device-based rather than user-based.
Previously, with the job card device and job card terminal, each application user was associated with a specific configuration. In the new model:
- The configuration is associated with the web browser running on a particular device.
- The first time the page is opened in a browser, a user with a supervisor role selects the configuration and a preferred filter.
- After that, whenever a worker signs in to the shop floor execution interface on that device, the saved configuration and filter are automatically applied.
This approach simplifies setup on shared devices, helps ensure a consistent experience for all workers using the same station, and reduces the administrative overhead of managing configurations per individual user.
